Senior Manager and Senior Policy Advisor, Alberta Health and Wellness, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Vivien currently serves as Senior Manager and Senior Policy Advisor in the areas of home care, long term care, and services for the elderly. She has more than twenty years of experience in senior management and planning in health and social services area in a number of provinces. She was responsible for the management and development of the Long Term Care Review in Alberta and for overseeing the implementation of the ‘Broda Report’ – the seminal 1999 Alberta report on aging and nursing home services. She was responsible for the development of Single Point of Entry System, Resident Classification and Case Mix Funding System, and New Models of Care in Alberta. She is also active in many national projects. She was a Steering Committee member of the National Consensus Process on Aging, and the Seniors Independence Research Program. She was responsible for the preparation of the new Continuing Care Strategy (December 2008), and is currently overseeing the more detailed policy development and implementation of this strategy in partnership with Alberta Health Services. She is well known for her innovative thinking in planning and implementation for services in continuing care and seniors’ health areas. In 1999, she was awarded the Premier Award of Excellence (Silver Award) by the Premier of Alberta for her work in the New Models of Care Project. She was also awarded the Women of Distinction Award by YWCA for her outstanding contribution to her profession.
