Associate Professor - Palliative Care, Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care, School of Population Health, University of Auckland, New Zealand; and Director of Palliative Care at the North Shore Hospice in Auckland, New Zealand.

Dr Rod MacLeod trained in Scotland, where he became aware of the need for specialized palliative care. He is one of the top palliative care medical specialists globally, with his work grounded in real life. Among his many research investigations, publications and presentations, courses, and administrative duties; he uses poetry with grieving families and people learning to care for those near the end of life. Rod's experiences in New Zealand have given him new perspectives into the spiritual and cultural aspects of living and dying.
